Press release
Leaders of farmers and youths in Kebbi State have expressed their unflinching loyalty and support for Governor Nasir Idris, commending his administration’s developmental strides in agriculture, infrastructure, and human capital development.
The endorsement was made on Monday when the leaders paid a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi. During the visit, they also appealed for greater involvement of farmers’ and youths’ representatives in the formulation and implementation of government agricultural policies, programmes, and schemes.
Presenting the two groups to the Governor, The Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Mu’azu, described farmers and youths as critical stakeholders in the socio-economic development of the state.
“Your Excellency, I am privileged to lead two very important groups that are central to the socio-economic growth of Kebbi State, farmers and youths. These leaders are drawn from the four Emirates, chiefdoms, 126 districts, and over 1,350 villages. They have come together to appreciate your efforts and to reaffirm their loyalty and support,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of farmers in the state, Alhaji Muhammadu Hayatu Birnin Kebbi commended Governor Idris for his wide-ranging developmental projects, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure, urban and rural development, Hajj operations, renovation of schools and hospitals, as well as the free distribution of fertiliser and assorted grains.
He reaffirmed the farmers’ unflinching support for the administration of Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, and assured the Governor of their continued cooperation.
Alhaji Hayatu also outlined challenges faced by farmers, especially losses occasioned by flooding, and appealed for government intervention in critical areas, including the construction of dams for dry-season farming, inclusion of farmers’ leaders in agricultural planning and implementation, participation in committees for the distribution of farming inputs, and provision of mobility support to ease movement.
“I want to assure Your Excellency of the 100 per cent support of our members for your two-term bid come 2027,” he stated.
Also speaking, Abubakar Atiku Gwadangaji, on behalf of youth leaders, expressed appreciation to the Governor for his developmental initiatives, noting that youths across the state have worked tirelessly to mobilise support for his administration.
“We pledge our total loyalty and that of our families. We are fully prepared to demonstrate our support during the campaign period as youth leaders,” he said.
Other farmers and youth leaders from various Emirates also spoke, echoing similar sentiments of support and reiterating calls for their involvement at both state and local government levels, considering the large number of people they represent.
In his response, Governor Nasir Idris acknowledged the strategic importance of farmers and youths to the growth and stability of Kebbi State.
He thanked them for the visit and their unwavering support, while appreciating their recognition of his administration’s development efforts.
The Governor revealed that he had made several trips to Abuja to attract dividends of democracy to the state, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown special interest in Kebbi State, resulting in major infrastructural projects, particularly road construction.
He cited key projects, including the Koko–Dabai–Zuru Road, and highlighted ongoing efforts to address security challenges, especially in Kebbi South.
Governor Idris disclosed that he had requested enhanced security support, including air force deployment, to enable farmers safely harvest their crops in volatile areas.
Governor Idris assured farmers of continued free distribution of fertilizer throughout his tenure and urged citizens to mobilise eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He also cautioned critics against spreading unfounded claims on insecurity, stressing that his government remains committed and proactive in addressing all security concerns in the state.
Highlight of the event was presentation of an award of excellence to Governor Nasir Idris by the groups.
