PRESS RELEASE: COVID-19: Kebbi State Governor Lauds President Buhari for Taking Proactive Measures to Combat Pandemic

Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for taking proactive measures, to combat the raging global Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

The Governor said that, the timely formation of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 was one of the myriad of plausible measures swiftly taken by the Federal Government to curb the spread of the disease in the country.

Bagudu averred, "I must sincerely express my profound happiness over the series of containment measures put in place by the federal government against the Covid-19 the dreaded deadly pandemic in the country."

The Kebbi governor further noted that, his administration had adopted a number of strategies and measures against the spread of the fatal disease in the state, enthusing, "these measure have really been successful."

Senator Atiku Bagudu who gave this indication on NTA Live Broadcast Program, 'Good morning Nigeria, "Thursday.

Bagudu bared his mind on the effectiveness of the measures so far taken by the government in checking the pandemic.

The Kebbi State Chief Executive, who spoke from Government House, Birnin Kebbi Via Skype live, told viewers about the numerous containment measures by his administration in line with stipulations by the federal government, through the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

Bagudu further reeled out these measures to include the establishment of a Task Force on Covid-19, banning inter-state travel, border closure, closure of all schools, as well as restricting civil servants to operate from their homes.

Others were the setting up of an isolation center, provision of ventilators and vigorous sensitisation campaigns, to create the desired awareness among the populace on the tangible dangers of the pandemic.

Bagudu added that, the Kebbi State Government has also maintained the necessary contact and consultation with the federal government and other state Governments on effectively and diligently containing the spread of the disease.

He also expressed delight that Kebbi State has maintained a clear sheet without recording a single case of the dreaded virus, assuring, "God willing Kebbi would remain COVID-19 free."

The governor commended the federal government for the array of decisive and incisive efforts made in controlling the spread of disease, nationwide.

On border surveillance and illegal entry into the state, Governor Bagudu acknowledged, "Kebbi State shares common boundaries with the Republics of Niger and Benin."

He made it abundantly clear that, even before the advent of the Corona Virus disease, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has been conducting drills at the borders.

Bagudu explained, "hence, the restriction of movement of goods and services, while Niger and Benin republics have also been replicating the same action, within and outside of their countries."

On palliative measures to cushion the effect of poverty to the poor as a result of Covid-19, Governor Atiku Bagudu announced that, the Government has begun the distribution of food items to vulnerable persons and other beneficiary groups.

He was also thankful to the federal government in that regard and advised wealthy individuals to emulate the invaluable gesture by assisting needy Nigerians.

Bagudu concluded by calling for concerted efforts and international collaboration, to deal with the Coronavirus Disease pandemic.
